1. Do pets need to be registered?

Yes, any dog, cat, or ferret over four months old must be registered with the Kennedale Police Department (401 Municipal Drive). The cost is $5.00 per year. 2. What are the leash and fence requirements?

Pet owners are required by ordinance to restrict their animals to a secured enclosure, which is defined as a fenced area or structure that is:

• Locked;
  
• Capable of preventing the entry of the general public, including children;
  
• Capable of preventing the escape or release of a dog;
  
• Clearly marked as containing a dangerous dog; and
  
• In conformance with the requirements for enclosures established by the animal control officer.
  

Owners can, of course, take their animal(s) for a walk, provided they are always restrained with a hand-held leash and all manure/droppings are disposed of.

3. Can I keep an exotic animal?

Wild and exotic animals are prohibited as pets within the city limits of Kennedale.

4. What are the regulations regarding barking and animal noise?

It is a violation to keep any animal or bird that causes frequent or long-continued noise that disturbs the comfort and repose of any person of ordinary sensibilities in the immediate vicinity.

5. What are the rabies vaccination requirements?

An owner who has a dog, cat, or ferret over the age of 3 months shall have the animal vaccinated against rabies.

6. How do I report an animal bite?

All animal bites and scratches must be reported to Animal Services through the Police Department. The report shall include the name and address of the victim, the name of the animal’s owner (If known), and any other information he/she has relating to the incident or animal. 7. What do I do if my animal has been impounded?

The City of Kennedale does not have an animal shelter. All animals impounded by the city are taken to the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Facility at 4900 Martin Street (817-392-3737). Animals are only held for 72 hours. Fees must be paid at the Kennedale Police Department (401 Municipal Drive) before an animal can be claimed by its owner from the Fort Worth facility. When you arrive to claim your pet, you may be asked to present a receipt from KPD as proof of payment of all fees.
