Public Works Department

The City of Kennedale Department of Public Works provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives and works in Kennedale. Things we take for granted, pure drinking water, environmentally safe sewers, paved streets with lighting, and park areas are included in the responsibilities of the Public Works Department.

Public Works is staffed with a trained workforce of 16 employees under the direction of Mark White,Community Development Director. The department's responsibilities include planning and zoning, water, sewer, parks, streets, ditches, sidewalks and code compliance. Preparation of Board of Adjustment Packets, Planning & Zoning Packets, Park Board Packets, and Building Board of Appeals, and all building maintenance.

Q: Do I need a permit to have a garage sale
A: Yes. A $10.00 permit must be obtained before holding a garage sale. Permits may be obtained through the Building Inspections Department. Garage sales may last for a period of three consecutive days and can only be held three times per 12-month period at any one address. Garage sale signs must not be posted on any sign, pole, tree or utility post.


Q: Is a permit required to build a storage shed in my backyard
A: Yes, check with the Planning & Zoning Department for any setback, code, or permit requirements.


Q: What are the requirements for installing a sprinkler system in our yard
A: Installation of a lawn sprinkler system requires a permit and the backflow device must be tested by a certified backflow inspector.


Q: Is a permit required to install a fence
A: If you are replacing an existing fence you need not apply for a permit. Any new fence does require a permit, check with the Planning & Zoning Department for other code or permit requirements.
