Place 4: Kelly Turner (Mayor Pro Tem)

A lifelong resident, Kelly is the fourth generation of his family to call Kennedale home. As a student at Kennedale High School, Kelly participated in student government, sports, and many civic activities. After graduating, Kelly attended Tarleton State University, earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Texas Wesleyan University in 1990, and a Master of Sports Medicine in 1994.

Professionally, Kelly worked in the psychiatric and sports medicine field before finding his current career at the Mesquite Fire Department in 1997, where he is Captain of Fire Station No. 1.

Kelly became a member of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission in 2007, and was elected to city council in 2008. He is the fourth member of his family to serve on the Kennedale City Council.  Kelly has a wife and four children.

During his tenure, council has achieved the following:
  • Completion of a new section of Bowman Springs Road
  • Creation of Rodgers Farm Park & TownCenter Park
  • Development and construction of the 9/11 Memorial
  • Development of the TownCenter area
  • Recognition as “City Council of the Year (2010)” by the Texas Municipal League (TML)
